We really want to welcome everyone to the play cafe!
We have an Accessibility Policy and a Family Friendly Policy and have taken many measures to make our building as accessible as we can for all.
Our main Lego & Playmobil play area is based on the ground level which is easily accessible by the side of the building (located in Mary Street) where a ramp has been installed.
We are in the process of installing a ‘push button for assistance’ bell to alert staff when there is an individual who needs access via the gate; we keep this area locked as a safety measure to prevent children playing inside the building from leaving without adult supervision. If you need access in the mean time please call Helen on 07809557648
Inside the building the hallways are extra wide and double doors lead through to the main play area.
We provide table service on the lower level so any orders for food or drinks can be given to the staff who are brightly dressed in their yellow ‘Maker’ t-shirts!
Having confirmed with Ards Borough Council anyone parking on Mary Street in the ’60 minutes No Return’ spaces (next to Make Build Buy Play Cafe!) who has a Disability Blue Badge is eligible to park there “for as long as they wish unless signs say differently.” Free of Charge.
Wheelchair Accessible Toilets
We have a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor (only open to Make visitors, key access required) which has a ramp up to the door and is fitted with a ‘Document M’ disabled toilet suitable for public use; it is up-to-date with the latest public building regulations and is ergonomically designed so the user has maximum comfort when using it.
There are also baby changing facilities within the wheelchair accessible toilet.
Family Friendly Toilets
Our Family Friendly Toilets are designed with parents and children in mind! As well as baby changing facilities in both the Men’s & Women’s toilets, we have especially selected duel purpose toilet seats!
These seats are an all-in-one solution for little people learning to use the toilet – providing a small and comfortable toilet seat for little bottoms discreetly enclosed in the toilet seat lid as well as a standard toilet seat for, er… bigger bottoms!
We have provided a handy little seat for parents to place babies and small toddlers in whilst mums use the toilet (we know how hard it is to juggle holding a baby and attending to the call of nature!) as well as a baby bouncy seat in the main toilet area so small babies can rest comfortably too.
There are steps available for small people to use to get onto and off the toilets as well as a step up to the sink for hand-washing. We provide paper towels but do not provide blow-hand dryers as know that these can startle babies and be a bit scary for some little people!
Pushchairs & Prams
Please give us a call (07809557648) if you need any help at all bringing your pushchair or pram into the building, we will happily open up the accessible entrance and provide you space to park up.
We know not all disabilities can be seen. We provide a quite space by the stairs where you are welcome to relax and take time out. If you don’t enjoy the buzz of the main playing areas you are welcome to make yourself comfortable here with soft lighting and a warm heater for those cooler days. Bring Lego or Playmobil here from the other zones to build and play with peacefully or just have a quite bite to eat, please use this space for some chill out time.
